What has made these changes possible is the unity of our people and the peace which our nation enjoys, as well as co-operation with our neighbours in Southern Africa; the countries of our continent and the whole international community.
We have gathered here today to mark fifteen years of freedom and democracy in South Africa. This is a special occasion in the lives of South Africans and friends of South Africa; one that seemed unachievable just a couple of decades ago.  
On 27 April annually, the people of South Africa pause to rededicate themselves to working together to achieve a peaceful, non sexist and non racist society in which every individual flourishes. Today we walk tall because of our collective effort, even though we still carry scars that remind us that our freedom was never free. We see this occasion as a befitting tribute to honour the people of Wisconsin who selflessly supported our struggle for liberation. I perceive this occasion as an opportunity to engage our international partners and encourage them to consolidate the relationships that they have established with us and work towards broadening the scope of those relationships.  South Africa has a long history of warm relations with the United States and over the years the relationship has been enhanced by interactions and consultations on issues that have a bearing on the African Continent.
South Africans stood firmly together and united in our diversity as we presented the best bid to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup games. I invite you all to attend Africa’s most prestigious event; the 2010 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) world cup in June 2010.
I also wish to proudly announce that Mayor Tom Barrett will lead a trade delegation from the City of Milwaukee to Umhlatuze in September 2009 to reciprocate the South African visit and to evaluate the progress that has been achieved through this partnership. As we celebrate fifteen years of democracy we take cognisance of the advances we have made during the past decade and a half, we are inspired to believe that no matter what obstacles we face, together we will realise our dream of a prosperous, just and peaceful nation.
I wish to take the privilege of informing this gathering that a few days ago South Africa went to the polls and voted for the fourth time since 1994 to elect a new leadership for our country. We are proud to be players in the stage of Democracy.
