The 100 Year Anniversary of the African National Congress was kicked off in Chicago with a pre-centenary lecture  on Friday 6 January and a panel discussion on Sunday 8 January 2012. The Chicago-Midwest ANC Centenary Committee presented these events at the Trinity United Church of Christ. The pre-centenary lecture was delivered by Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. about “The Historical Role of the Church in Africa and the Historical Role of Trinity United Church of Christ in Africa”

 

The panel discussion was about “The Relationship between the Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the Anti-Apartheid Movement in South Africa”. The panelists were Professor Harold Rogers (Moderator), Dr Rachel Rubin, UIC, Attorney Stan Willis, Professor Johan Buis, Wheaton College and Nicole Lee, Executive Director of Trans-Africa

 

Ambassador Magaqa, Consul General of South Africa, made opening and closing remarks and Alderman Joe Davis delivered a message from the City of Milwaukee.
