US-South Africa Women’s Business Forum 24-28 October 2011

The women’s business conference was conceived at the South African Consulate General in Chicago supported by efforts to align key mission projects to the priorities of creating jobs, developing relevant skills, reducing inequality and fighting poverty, disease and crime. We recognize that there exist institutions in the United States of America, which represent significant partnership opportunities for the woman entrepreneur and the yearning girl child. These institutions may help alter the economic model, which had helped foster the current imbalances within the macro economy. Accepting that the fate of the economy of the Republic, is inextricably bound with the destiny of the majority which are women in general and African women in particular, initiatives of this nature seek to position women in those areas of the economy that determine growth and prosperity.

The Mission in Chicago initiated the formation of a United States South Africa Women’s Business Forum (USSAWBF) to provide a platform for mutually beneficial business interaction between the US and South African women owned businesses. Given that already so much has been done by our government in supporting and enriching efforts for empowering women and growing their enterprises, the Consulate focused on creating a platform that would be a business bridge between the women of South Africa and the USA.
